District Initiatives

Each year the Districts Curriculum department creates a learning booklet that outlines curriculum focused initiatives that will be carried out throughout the course of the year. Most of these will occur on Professional development days or with release time.

Copies will be posted in the staffroom and teacher work room.

 Professional Development Day at Metchosin Technical Centre

“What’s trust have to do with it, anyway? The Power of Relational Trust and how it can Change the way you teach.”

Friday, October 25th, 2013, 9:30 – 3:00

  •  The day will consist of hands on activities, simulations and theories regarding building trust and working in a collaborative teaching and learning environment.  
  • The goal of this professional development seminar  is to help teachers develop relational trust by expanding community in and outside the classroom while fostering positive interpersonal skills and improving student’s personal self-knowledge. 
  •  If a classroom teacher wants to improve classroom climate, student engagement, and relational trust then learning the methods in, “What’s trust have to do with it, anyway? The Power of Relational Trust and how it can Change the way you teach.” will provide some possible effective tools.
  • Aspects of  this seminar include: the AVID interactive notebook, outdoor education (wear comfortable clothes and have some outside footwear and raincoat), classroom instruction, intentional thinking and instruction, social networking, practical hands on experience and humour.
