The Student Support Services department at WestShore Centre for Learning & Training offers an array of specific collaborative approaches to encourage and develop a fully capable learner. As a department, we are guided by the school district’s Principles of Learning which state:

  • Learning requires the active participation of the learner
  • People learn in different ways and at different rates
  • Learning is an individual and a social process

WestShore’s Learning Support Room is located in Room 208 upstairs at the Goldstream Avenue Campus. Students have access to specialized support to assist in meeting IEP goals and to facilitate completion of diploma requirements.

We believe that the key to success for our students is achieved through a holistic approach to supporting individuals. This core system of beliefs embodies the following key elements:

  • BELONGINGa sense of connection to something (i.e. school) and with others.  They take part in a safe and caring environment and relationships.
  • COMPETENCEthey experience success as defined by their unique needs as an individual.  They also have a sense of ownership of their own learning.
  • SELF-DETERMINATIONthey have a well developed sense of social identity.  They see the opportunities the world has and their place in it.  They feel confident and independent, and are able to advocate for themselves.
